Climbing vines. Stems woody, 1-6 m long, 3-8(-10) mm thick, branches 20- 60 cm long, zigzag to straightish; internodes 2-7 cm long. 1.5-3 mm thick. weakly angular, smooth or sparsely thorny.
Leaf blades ovate-orbicular to broadly elliptic, often ovate-elliptic or narrowly ellipsoid, rarely somewhat depressed-orbicular, 2-5(-8) cm long, 2-4(-6) cm wide, base rounded to suddenly contracted, apex rounded to shallowly emarginate, usually mucronate, sometimes rather suddenly attenuate to subacute, coriaceous, glaucous-green or white-powdery on lower surface; costas 5 or 7 including a slender marginal pair, all separate to base, slender, distinct on both surfaces, lateral veinlets oblique, reticulation distinct; petiole 10-15 mm long, 1-1.2 mm thick, trigonous with subacute abaxial angle, sheathing for 6-10 mm long; wings oblong or lanceolate-oblong, membranaceous, obtuse, 1-2 mm wide; tendrils 0-15 cm long.
Inflorescence a single umbel, in non-prophyllate axils of first year branches; peduncle 1-4 cm long. Umbels of both sexes 15-20 mm across at anthesis, 10-20-flowered. Staminate perianth campanulate at anthesis, yellowish green, 4.5-5.5 mm long; outer tepals ovate-ellipsoid, apex recurved, subobtuse, 1.8-2.2 mm wide; inner tepals lanceolate-oblong, apex subobtuse, 1-1.2 mm wide; stamens not exserted; anthers ellipsoid, 0.5-0.75 mm long, filaments ca. 3 mm long. Pistillate perianth 3-4 mm long; tepals patent, lanceolate to elliptic, subobtuse, outer ones 1.5-1.8 mm wide, inner ones 1-1.2 mm wide; ovary ovoid, 2 mm long; stigmas spreading, 0.8 mm long; staminodia 3, subulate-linear, 1-1.3 mm long.
Berries globose, 8-10 mm across, red. Seed 1-3(-5), 3-4 mm long, obovate-orbicular, red-purple.

台灣 : occasional in forests and on grassy hillsides, sea level to 2,700 m.
世界 : Widely distributed from Japan through the Ryukyus and temperate China southward to northern Myanmar, northern Thailand and Indochina, and the Philippines.
