Rhizome short, 2-3 mm across; scales yellowish-brown, base broad, peltately attached, lanceolate, apices long, hair-tipped.
Stipes usually as long or longer than lamina, stramineous; fronds lanceolate, 8-16 cm long, 1 cm wide, apex caudate, base cuneate; or trifid, central lobe (16-24 cm long, 1 cm wide) about twice as long as the lateral lobes; lobes usually gradually narrowed towards base, widest in middle; margins thickened, entire, somewhat undulate, sometimes with remote notches.
Sori round, somewhat sunken in the tissue; usually prominently visible on upper surface.
