形態特徵

• Twining vines from a long cylindrical tuber; stems slender, loosely branched.
• Leaves triangular or ovate-triangular, opposite, rarely alternate, apex acuminate, glabrous, 5-10 cm long, 2-10 cm wide; nerves 5-9; petioles 2-3 cm long.
• Flowers white, usually 15-30, crowed in a spike; staminate spikes 3-5, erect, axillary, short pedunculate; staminate flowers with 6 perianth segments and 6 stamens; rudimentary pistil present; pistillate spikes pendulous, pistillate flowers composed of 6 segments and a 3-celled inferior ovary; staminodes present.
• Capsules broadly elliptic or oblong, 2 cm long, 1.5 cm wide, stipitate; seeds flat, winged.
• The plants are widely cultivated for their edible subterranean tubers.

• 世界 : Japan, Korea, mainland China, and the Ryukyus.
