型態特徵
Twining-climbing or seldom erect herbs; rhizomes various, most often a large, basal tuber. Leaves alternate or opposite, rarely whorled, simple or compound, entire, undulate or palmately lobed; petiole and blade distinct, petiole commonly twisted or jointed at base and often with a stipule-like flange; blade broad, or even compound, commonly with 3-11 parallel, curving-convergent main veins, and a network of veinlets. Flowers small, in racemes, spikes or panicles, unisexual, regular, trimerous; perianth segments 6, usually connate at base; stamens 3 or 6, usually in two series, the inner usually staminodial; filaments distinct or short connate at base; gymnoecium of 3 carpels united to form a compound, inferior, trilocular ovary; placentation axile; style distinct or connate basally, with separate stigmas; ovules 2 (-many) in each locule. Fruit a 3-winged capsule.
屬
About ten genera, with more than 650 species in subtropical and tropical regions, a few extending to the north temperate zone. One genus and 14 species in Taiwan.
