Perennial herb; stems somewhat creeping, 30-50 cm long, glabrous, green, slightly scabrous.
Leaves simple, opposite, obovate or lanceolate, oblong-obovate to spatulate-lanceolate, 5-6 cm long, 4.5-5 mm wide, acute at apex, attenuate at base, chartaceous or herbaceous, entire, glabrous, lustrous-green above.
Flowers many, terminal, in cymes; pedicels 1.5-3 cm long, slender, glandular-pubescent; calyx cylindric-oblong, 2.5-3 cm long, 3-5 mm wide, 9-10-nerved, glabrous, lobes triangular, reflexed, 2-2.5 mm long, obtuse, margins entire; petals white, deltoid-obovate, 2-2.5 cm long, about 4 mm wide, 2-lobed at apex, lobes oblong, 4-5 mm long, 1.5 mm wide; stamens 10, 12-14 mm long, exserted, anthers oblong-ovate, 2-2.5 mm long, ca. 1 mm wide.
The variety differs from the typical phase by its white flowers and elongate petals.
