This variety is similar to the species, but differs in the following characteristics: (1) culm and branches are yellow, then gradually turning to orange with persistent deep green stripes on internodes; (2) culm and walls are smaller and thicker; (3) sheath of culm are light green with a few narrow yellowgreen stripes; (4) stigma is usually solitary; and (5) lodicules are glabrous on margins.
