形態特徵

  • Perennial with short, corm like rhizome. Culms solitary or rather often few together, 70-100 cm tall, trigonous, smooth, thickened at base.
  • Leaves shorter than culm; leaf blades linear, 5-12 mm wide, weakly folded to flattish, stiffish; sheaths rather elongated, light brownish.
  • Corymb loose, compound or decompound; leafy bracts 5 or 6, lower 2 or 3 surpassing corymb; rays 6 to 10, erect-patent, unequal 5 to 18 cm long; secondary corymbs ca. 4 cm long, bearing 3 to 6 unequal raylets. Spikes oblong to nearly cylindrical, 1-3 cm long, 5-12 mm wide, densely bearing many spikelets. Spikelets linear-oblong to linear, 6-12 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, 8- to 14-flowered.
  • Glumes subloose, elliptic to ovate-elliptic, 2 mm long, membranaceous, 5- to 7-nerved, pale-brown with red-brown flecks on both sides, white-hyaline on upper margin, keel green, mucronate at blunt apex, base decurrent along rachis forming white hyaline caducous wings. Achenes obovate, 2/3 as long as glume, trigonous, brown, punctulate; style short; stigmas 3. Stamens 3.
  • Subspecies <i>subprolixus</i> represents an intermediate phase between subsp. <i>nutans</i> with loose spikes and subsp. <i>elusinoides</i> with dense spikes.
