形態特徵

• Rhizome short, densely tufted, without stolons. Culm acutely triquetrous, erect, 30-60 cm tall, scabrous above, often bearing 1 or 2 leaves in midway portion.
• Leaves many, 6-13 mm wide, basal sheaths rusty-brown or somewhat purplish brown.
• Spikes 5 to 7, subfastigiate, sessile to peduncled; terminal spike staminate, or with a few pistillate flowers, linear, 4-8 cm long; lateral spikes pistillate, cylindrical, rarely with a few staminate flowers, 5-9 cm long, 4-5 mm thick, densely many-flowered. Bracts leafy, much subpassing inflorescence, not sheathing at base.
• Pistillate glume ovate to elliptic, 2 mm long, truncate at mucronate apex, pale and flecked with dark purple-brown, greenish keel ending in a mucro. Utricles suberect, ovate to oval, 2.2-2.5 mm long, biconvex, nerveless, light brownish green, short stipe at base, beak rather short, truncate. Achenes loosely contained, broadly obovate, 1.5 mm long, lenticular, contracted at both ends; stigmas 2.
