Perennial odoriferous herbs; bulbs globose or nearly so, 1-1.5 cm in diam., white, outer coat membranaceous, entire.
Leaves usually 2 or 3, radical, shorter than peduncle, 35-50 cm long, 2-3 mm across, glabrous, green, trigonous in cross section, grooved, smooth.
Flowers pale red or purplish red, 4-6 mm long, in umbels; peduncle erect or ascending, 40-60 cm long; involucre (spathe) broadly ovate, beaked at apex, bulbils often present in umbel; pedicel 1.5-2 cm long, slender, green, glabrous; perianth segments ovate-oblong, 5-6 mm long, obtuse or rounded, midrib tinged purplish red abaxially; inner series somewhat longer than outer; stamens 6, exserted, filaments toothed; anthers rounded; ovary 3-celled, style slender, shallowly 3-lobed.
