形態特徵

Shrubs, to 5 m tall, deciduous; branchlets slender, terete, densely stellate tomentose.
Leaves ovate-globose to elliptic, members of a pair unequal in size on flowering branchlets, chartaceous, 4–10 cm long, 16 cm long on rapidly growing shoots, apex abruptly acuminate or acute, base obtuse to round, margin dentate-serrate, pubescent on both surfaces; lateral veins 6–9 per side, nearly straight, parallel; petiole to 2 cm long.
Inflorescences terminating on latera; branchlets, corymbose cymes, 5–8 cm across, with sterile marginal flowers; peduncle 3–4 cm long. Sterile flowers white, ca. 2 cm across, 5-lobed, one lobe smaller, zygomorphic, pedicel ca. 2 cm long; fertile flowers sessile, ca. 3 mm across.
Fruits red, ovate-orbicular, more or less compressed, ca. 6 mm across.

分布

台灣 : restricted to the northern half of the island, 1,800–3,000m.
世界 : Southern China and Japan; variety <i>formosanum</i> is endemic to Taiwan.
