形態特徵

• A shrub or small to medium tree. Young branchlets glabrous to pubescent, 1–7 mm wide in third internode.
• Leaves opposite, 3- and/or 1-foliolate. Three-foliolate leaves 4.5–42 cm long; petiole 1–15 cm long; leaflet blades glabrous to rather sparsely pubescent below, glabrous above, elliptic or narrowly so to obovate or oblanceolate, 3–28 cm long, 0.9–10.5 cm wide, the base acute to attenuate, the apex rounded or emarginate to acuminate. One-foliolate leaves 5–40 cm long; petiole 0.8–5.5 cm long; leaflet blade 4–34 cm long, 1.8–17 cm wide; otherwise similar to 3-foliolate leaves.
• Inflorescences axillary and/or on branchlets below leaves, few- to densely many-flowered, 1–13 cm long. Flowers unisexual or sometimes bisexual (plants dioecious or sometimes monoclinous or andromonoecious); sepals 0.3-0.8 mm long; petals white, greenish, or pale yellow, 1.5–3.5 mm long; stamens 8 or sometimes 4; ovary glabrous, the carpels connate at base, 2-ovulate.
• Fruit of 1–4 basally connate follicles, these glabrous, subglobose to broadly ellipsoid, 2.5–5 mm long, dehiscent only part-way to base. Seeds subglobose to broadly ellipsoid, 2.5–4.5 mm long.
• As seen in Taiwan, <i>Melicope triphylla</i> has glabrous branchlets and leaves. The latter are usually exclusively 3-foliolate and are about 7–21 cm long with leaflet blades about 5–12 cm long and 2–6 cm wide. The flowers are consistently 8-staminate.

• 台灣 : Lower altitude forest, thickets, and open places in Taiwan.
• 世界 : Ryukyu Islands southward to Borneo, New Guinea, and New Britain.
