形態特徵

Large Trees; branches grayish brown or reddish brown, villous when young.
Leaves chartaceous, oblong, 7–10 cm long, 2.5–4 cm wide, apex acute or shortly acuminate, base obtuse, margins crenulate, serrate-crenulate or awned-crenulate, glabrous, midrib shallowly impressed above, veins distinct on both surfaces; petioles 1.5–2 cm long.
Flowers racemosely crowded on the tip of the branchlets; pedicels stout, 1–1.5 cm long; calyx 5-lobed, lobes subequal, semiorbicular, coriaceous, 2.5–3 mm long, densely pubescent or glabrous without, margins ciliate; stamens numerous, 6–8 mm long, connate at the base; petals 5, obovate, 1.2–1.8 cm long, connate below into a short tube, pubescent at base; ovary ovoid, densely pubescent below, glabrescent above.
Fruit a capsule, globose to depressed-globose, 1–1.4 cm in diameter, pubescent; seeds flat, reniform, narrowly winged, 7–9 mm long, 4.5–5 mm wide.

台灣 : in broad-leaved forests throughout the island.
世界 : S & SE China and the Ryukyus.
