形態特徵

Evergreen shrub 50-120 cm tall; stems cylindrical, glabrous, dark-green, the nodes conspicuous.
Leaves petiolate, opposite, coriaceous, lanceolate-oblong or oblong, 6-15 cm long, 2-5 cm broad, sharply serrate to coarsely spinose-serrate, occasionally glandular-mucronate, apex acuminate, base acute, glabrous on both surfaces; petioles ca. 1 cm long, connate and forming a short stipular sheath.
Inflorescences terminal, erect, branched, branches 6-10 cm long; flowers bisexual, subtended by a bract at base; bracts small; perianth absent; stamen 1, fleshy, club-shaped, cylindric, large and conspicuous, fusiform, anthers 2-celled, introrse, parallel; ovary ovate, style absent; orthotropous.
Drupes spherical, 3-4 mm in diameter, broadly ovoid, yellowish red when mature.
Vessels are absent from the primary and secondary xylems of the plant.

分布

台灣 : in primary forests; 100-1,500 m, especially common in the northern part.
世界 : India, Ceylon, Java, the Philippines, Indo-china, Malaysia, C. S. mainland China, Korea, and Japan.
