Medium sized Evergreen trees; branchlets brown-tomentose when young; buds long ellipsoid, scales yellowish-brown tomentose outside.
Leaves obovate-oblong, 10-15 cm long, 2.5-4.5 cm broad, short acuminate at apex, acute at base, subglabrous above, densely long brown puberulent along midrib, lateral veins and veinlets beneath, the lateral veins 7-8 pairs, midrib, veins and rarely veinlets impressed, concaved above and elevated beneath, but some veinlets slightly impressed above, with parallel veinlets at base of blade; petioles 1-1.5 cm long, densely villous.
Inflorescences umbellate, 5 or 6-flowered; July to September; peduncles ca. 1 cm long; staminate umbels nearly sessile; involucral bracts 5; pedicels 1 mm long, densely villous; receptacles short, villous outside, somewhat villous inside; tepals 6, subequal, obovate-oblong, 2.5 mm long, 1.5 mm broad, obtuse at apex, densely villous outside, glabrous inside, the margins long ciliate; fertile stamens usually 9, the filaments slender, filiform, 4 mm long, densely villous, 1st and 2nd whorls of stamens eglandular, rarely glandular, 3rd whorl with 2 subsessile glands, 4th whorl usually reduced to glands; reduced ovary absent; pistillate umbels with short peduncles.
Berry ellipsoid, 1.3 cm across, dark red.
