形態特徵

• Evergreen shrubs to small trees to 5 m tall; bark grayish-brown; roots often corpulent, about 3.5-8 cm long, 0.7-2.5 cm across, brownish-yellow to brownish-black; branches glabrous, brown, branchlets blue-green, with golden-yellowish silky hairs, glabrescent; buds oblong.
• Leaves alternate, ovate, rounded to elliptic, 3.5-7 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, somewhat coriaceous, abruptly short caudate-acuminate at apex, obtuse to rounded at base, entire, lustrous-green above, glaucous beneath, with soft brown hairs when young, glabrescent, often with blackish-brown hairs remaining, with 3 main veins, the 2 main lateral veins ascending to upper 3/4 of midrib, midrib and main lateral veins elevated beneath; petioles 0.6-1 cm long, pubescent, glabrescent.
• Inflorescences culsters, axillary, 6-13-flowered, with 1 bract,; pedicels 3-4 mm long, densely woolly, yellowish-green; tepals 6, broadly elliptic, softy white hairy outside, glabrous inside, yellow to yellowish-green, obtuse at apex; staminate flowers with 9 fertile stamens; perianth 4 mm long, 2 mm wide; stamens 3-4 mm long, filaments sparsely soft hairy, 1st and 2nd whorles of stamens eglandular, 3rd whorles with 2 ovoid glands at base of filaments, anthers 2-celled, introrse; staminodia present; pistillode villous; pistillate flowers with perianth 2.5 mm long, 2 mm wide; staminodia present, sparsely soft hairy (1.5 mm long); ovary ellipsoid, 1.5 mm long, with short brown soft hairs, stigma capitate.

物候

flowering October to March; maturing period from November to December.

分布

• 台灣 : 200-1,000 m, only known from the central part, especially at Meiyuen and Peikung, Puli near Taichung.
• 世界 : Central to south China, Vietnam, the Philippines.
