形態特徵

• Evergreen trees to 25 m high with broad rounded top; trunks short, 0.6 (–1.5) m across; bark thick, corky, deeply furrowed, scales yellow, tomentose.
• Leaves ovate to ovate-oblong, 3–5.8 cm long, 1.7–2.9 cm broad, coriaceous, acutish at tip, obtuse, rounded or subcordate at base, lustrous-dark-green above, grayish-tomentose beneath, glabrescent on seedlings, margins dentate to serrate, rarely almost entire, lateral veins 5–7 pairs; petioles 0.2–0.7 cm long.
• Pistillate flowers with linear styles.
• Cupules cup-shaped, short-stalked, upper scales thick, elongate, upright or sometimes curved, spreading, imbricate; nuts ovoid-oblong, 1.2–3 cm long, 0.8–1 cm across.

物候

Pistillate flowers blooming in May; fruits maturing from September to January.

分布

• 台灣 : introduced, at Luku, Chishan, Nantou, and Liukuei, Kaohsiung.
• 世界 : Distributed in southern Europe and northern Africa.
