形態特徵

Large evergreen trees with straight trunk to 1 m in diameter; bark rough, dark gray; branchlets 5-angled.
Leaves concolorous, elliptic, 8–15 cm long, 2.6–6 cm broad, coriaceous, acuminate at apex, cuneate to rounded at base, nearly entire, but somewhat wavy toward apex, glabrous on both sides, midrib concave or somewhat prominent above, prominent below, lateral veins 8–10 pairs; petioles 2–4 cm long.
Perianth of staminate flowers 5–6-lobed; stamens 8–12, 3 mm long. Pistillate flowers 2–3 in clusters, 1.5–3 mm long; ovary 1–3-celled, styles 1–3.
Cupules sessile, dish-shaped, 0.7–0.8 cm long, 2 cm across, scales large, triangular, imbricate, tomentose outside;nuts broadly conic-globose, 2–2.5 cm long, 1.5–2.4 cm across, apiculate at top, truncate at base.

物候

Flowering from March to June; fruits maturing from August to February.

分布

台灣 : very common in forests from low to medium altitudes throughout the island.
世界 : Distributed in mainland China (S & SE) and Hainan Island.
