形態特徵

• Evergreen trees; bark gray; branchlets glabrous, dark violet, lenticels convex; young leaves glabrous on both sides.
• Leaves coriaceous, ovate to oblong-ovate, 6–11.5 cm long, 1.9–4.3 cm wide, abruptly pointed at apex with acutish tip, obtuse or rounded at base, glabrous above, somewhat grayish-white beneath, margins serrulate toward apex, revolute, midrib slightly impressed above, prominently elevated beneath, lateral veins 6–8 pairs; petioles 0.7–1.7 cm long.
• Staminate flowers in pendulous catkins, 2.5 mm long, 2.5 mm wide; perianth 5–6-lobed, membranaceous, lobes imbricate, glabrous on both sides except margins slightly hairy; stamens generally 5–6 (–4–11), filaments 1.3 mm long, anthers 1 mm long. Pistillate flowers with perianth 4–5-lobed, the lobes 2.5 mm long, 2 mm wide; ovary with 3–4 (–5) styles, stigmas enlarged at tip.
• Cupules cup-shaped, 0.8–1.2 cm long, 1–1.3 cm across; scales in 7–11 concentric rings, gray-tomentose;nuts globose, 0.9–1.2 cm long, 1.2 cm across.

物候

maturing from October to December.

分布

• 台灣 : mainly in central part of the island at 400–900 m altitude (Kukuan, Chiapaotai, Meiyuan, etc.), also in eastern and northern parts.
• 世界 : Distributed in Hong Kong.
