型態特徵
Terrestrial ferns; rhizome erect, oblique or creeping, solenostelic or dictyostelic, clothed with either hairs of narrow brownish scales. Fronds uniform or rarely subdimorphic, 1-4-pinnate or pedate, rarely simple, not articulate to rhizome; veins free or rarely anastomosing without included free veinlets. Sori superficial, linear, following the course of veins, exindusiate or close to the margin, borne along the apical part of fertile veins on the underside of the sharply reflexed discolored membranaceous or coriaceous leaf-margin, which protects the sori as a false indusia. Sporangia with a vertical annulus, developing in mixed sequence. Spores tetrahedral.
屬
A family of about 20 genera and 300 species, widely distributed in the tropical and temperate regions of the world, seven genera and 23 species in Taiwan .

型態特徵
Stems apparently absent, very short, erect; fibrous roots borne from near base of stipes; stipe scales thin, pale brown. Fronds glabrous, dimorphic, young leaves sterile, these either being deeply 3-lobed, pinnate or tripinnatifid (depending on the species);fertile leaves appearing later, taller, much dissected, pinnae contracted; venation anastomosing; areolae without included veinlets; tissues succulent. Sporangia borne in a single line along marginal veins, globose, short-skalked, the annulus usually well developed, the dehiscence transverse; false indusia much refleced, nearly meeting at midrib. Spores large, tetrahedral, ribbed.

Fronds uniform or subdimorphic, 1-3-pinnate or variously divided, not articulate to rhizome; veins free or anastomosing without included free veinlets. Sori round or oblong, borne on distal ends or on the apical parts of veins, or forming continuous conenosori borne on the vascular commissure connecting the vein-ends, without true indusium, but protected by the modified and sharply reflexed leaf-margin and opening introrsely; sporangia developing in mixed sequence, with vertical annulus. Spores tetrahedral or rarely bilateral.

型態特徵
Small ferns growing suberect or pendent on rocks or tree trunks; rhizome creeping, usually short; roots covered with a mass of brown hairs; scales clathrate, usually very narrow and hair-pointed; stipitate or sessile, stipes usually containing two vascular bundles. Fronds tufted or approximate, simple, entire (or sometimes forked at apex), venation usually reticulate, forming elongated areolae without included veinlets, epidermis with long thicked-walled sclerids. Sporangia borne along the marginal, or dichotomously forking veins, superficial or more often in soral grooves, paraphyses yellowish to brown, abundant, filiform or club-shaped, simple or branched.

型態特徵
Rhizome ascending, short, dictyostelic, clothed with narrow scaales. Fronds crowed; stipes polished, scaly at base. dark-coloured; lamina typically obate and 2-3-pinnate, mediocre or small, herbaceous to subcoriaceous, lower surface more or less densely ceraceous; veins free. Sori borne along the whole length of the veins on the lower surface of fertile leaflets, exindusiate, without paraphyses; annulus of 13-24 thickened cells. Spores tetrahedral, dark, with irregularly reticulate-ribbed epispore.
About 40 species, mostly in tropical America, a few in Africa and Samoa; one species in Taiwan.
