Large scandent evergreen shrub rooting freely from stems and branches, branches glabrous, reddish-brown or paler.
Levaes coriaceous, elliptic to obovate, 2.5–6.5 cm long, 1.5–4.0 cm wide, glabrous, shining above, tessellate-punctate beneath, rounded or obtuse at apex, acute, cuneate or obtuse at base, with 3 main veins, entire, slightly revolute, lateral veins 3–4 pairs, prominent beneath; petioles scurfy, 0.5–1 cm long; stipules membranaceous, linear-lanceolate, 0.5–l cm long, glabrous, fugaceous.
Male and gall or female and neuter Flowers mixed in one receptacle: male Flowers many, scattered, very long-pedicellate, perianth-lobes 2–3, stamen 1, filament longer; gall Flowers pedicellate or sessile, perianth-lobes 3–4, linear, ovary smooth, obliquely obovoid, style terminal or sublateral, stigma dilated and often bifid; female Flowers sessile, perianth lobes 3, linear, ovary smooth, oblong, style terminal or subterminal, slender, stigma tapering, often bifid, with one lobe longer.
Receptacles reddish-brown, solitary, paired or fascicled, axillary or cauline, slightly pubescent, globose, 5–7 cm across, basal bracts 3–4, rather thin, stalks thick, short, pubescent, 0.6–1.2 cm long.
