Saprophytes. Tubers white, subterranean, horizontal, ellipsoid or elongate irregularly shaped, 7-16 cm long, 2-5 cm in diam., with 5-10 nodes, producing many thick fleshy roots.
Green leaves absent.
Scapes purplish brown, 40-60 cm tall, 5-10 mm thick, with 2 tubular sheaths below ca. 4-6 cm long, peduncle remotely scaled, scales linear-lanceolate, 2-3 cm long; rachis 10-30 cm long, laxly with more than 10 flowers; floral bracts lanceolate, 12-20 mm long, 3 mm wide; pedicel and ovary 15-22 mm long, greenish brown. Flowers dull reddish brown, perianth spreading, 3-4 cm across; dorsal sepal elliptic, 15-20 mm long, 5-7 mm wide, acute to acuminate; lateral sepals ascending, oblong, 18-23 mm long, 6- 8 mm wide, apex acute, base oblique; petals obovate, 12-15 mm long, 5-9 mm wide, acute; lip erect at apex of column foot, cuneate-triangular in outline, 16-18 mm long, 11-14 mm wide when expanded, shortly saccate at base, 3-lobed near middle, lateral lobes erect and embracing column, ovate-triangular to semiorbicular, obtuse, midlobe pale yellow, recurved, ovate-triangular or ovate-orbicular, 6-7 mm long, disc papillose, with 2 low reddish keels near base; column stout, 5-7 mm tall, 4 mm wide, foot 6-7 mm long, 4 mm wide, thinner toward apex; anther yellowish, conic-semispherical, 2.2 mm long; pollinia ellipsoid, 1 mm long.
Capsules ellipsoid-fusiform, 3-4 cm long.

台灣 : lowland sparse forests or grasslands of eastern and southern parts.
世界 : Widely distributed from the Ryukyus, southern China, India, southward to Malaysia, Indonesia, northern Australia and Papua New Guinea.
