Perennials; rhizomes well developed, densely scaly; culms tufted, erect 2-5-noded, nodes bearded.
Ligule membranaceous, obtuse.
Spikelets paired, lanceolate or oblong, monomorphic, awnless, surrounded by long silky hairs, ca. 3 mm long; glumes lanceolate or oblong, nearly equal, membranaceous, as long as spikelet, margins ciliate; lower lemma laceolate, hyaline, ca. 2 mm long; palea wanting; upper lemma lanceolate, hyaline, ca. 1.5 mm long, palea fringed at apex, truncate, slightly smaller than lemma; anthers 2.
This is one of the most common grass on sunny exposed soils. The rhizomes are sold for medicinal purposes in Taiwan.
