形態特徵

• Perennial with short rhizome clothed with brownish fibers. Culms more or less tufted, very low 2-6 cm tall; obtusely trigonous smooth, usually hidden in leaf tufted, which much surpass culm.
• Leaves several, surpassing corymb; blades linear, plicate, 2-4 mm wide, stiffish; sheaths purplish brown.
• Corymbs simple with 2-7 elongated rays; rays somewhat unequal, patent, lower ones 9-12 cm long, each terminated by a head-like cluster of spikelets; leafy bracts 3-7, equalling or shorter than corymb rays. Heads globose, 8-25 mm across, bearing 5-20 spikelets. Spikelets ovate to lanceolate-ovate; 6-12 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, slightly turgid, bearing 4-15 flowers, pale green and tinged with brown.
• Glumes broadly ovate, 3.5-4 mm long, chartaceous, pale-green with purplish brown striate, sometimes tinged with purple brown, 11- or 13-nerved, greenish keel convex, ending in a short recurved cusp at acute apex of glume. Achenes oval, trigonous with shallowly concave sides, ca. 1/2 as long as glume, maturing dark brown; style elongated; stigmas 3. Stamens 3.
• This is a peculiar looking species growing in sand, with its extremely abbreviated culms, which are normally hidden in the leaf tuft, and the relatively long umbel rays which look like tufted culms.

• 台灣 : in sand by seashore.
• 世界 : Confined to coastal China, from Shantung south to Kwangtung, Indochina and Malay.
