Vigorous climber, glabrous or pubescent. This variety is densely pubescent on its young parts and its leaves are pilose on both surfaces.
Leaves alternate, simple, the base cordate or round or subtruncate, ovate or slightly 3-lobed, sinuate-repand or coarsely crenate-dentate, blades 3–12 cm long, 2.8 cm wide; petioles 2–6 cm long.
Cymes corymbiform, 1.5–3.5 cm long or longer, pedunculate, dicho¬tomous, glabrous. Flowers minute, 1–2 mm across; calyx obtusely 5-dentate, about 0.5 mm long; petals 1.5 mm long; discs cupular; stamens 5; styles filiform, persistent.
Berry globose, about 5 mm across, blue, punctate, 3–4 seeded; seeds smooth, triangular-ovoid, about 3.5 mm long, 2.5–3 mm wide and thick, with a very short beak.
