A shrub, evergreen, to 1 m high, often variously branched, dark and tomentose.
Leaves opposite, leathery, elliptical to oblong, both ends obtuse or orbicular, margin entire or serrate, 8–14 cm long, 7–9 cm broad, dark-green above, light-green below, midrib elevated in both surfaces.
Inflorescence axillary, solitary or paired. Flower light-red; petioles purple-red, 15 mm long; calyx 5, lobes lanceolate, with 2 glands on two lobes and a larger gland on the other two lobes, a reduced gland on the fifth lobe; petals 5, with a narrow stalk-like base, light-red, fimbriate, crisped edged; stamens 10; styles 3, flexed.
