A medium-sized tree; buds and young shoots brownish or white scurfy.
Leaves bipinnate, occasionally tripinnate, 20–40 cm long, pinnae 3–4 pairs, the rachis pubescent when young; leaflets 3–4 jugate; opposite or subopposite, chartaceous, ovate-oblong, 2–6 cm long, 1–2.5 cm broad, acuminate at apex, acute to rounded, not or slightly inequilateral at base, toothed or lobed, pubescent when young, the lateral veins about 10 on each side of the midrib, indistinct; petiolules 3–5 mm long, the terminal one much longer, about 1 cm long.
Panicles axillary, 10–20 cm long, the rachis and branches pubescent; flowers lilac, pedicels slender, 2–3 mm long; bracts ovate, 1 mm long, pubescent; calyx 5–6-parted, the segments ovate-oblong, densely villose without; petals 5, spathulate-oblong, obtuse-rounded at apex, about 8 mm long, 2 mm broad, pubescent without, spreading; staminal tube dark purple, a little shorter than the petals, glabrous, toothed at top, the anthers 10, sessile; ovary ovate, glabrous, about 1.5 mm long, 5–6-celled, the style glabrous, 4 mm long, the stigma capitate.
Fruit ovoid. 1.2 cm long, 9 mm across, fleshy with a hard stone.
