形態特徵

• Medium to large tree, to ca. 20 m tall, usually with short trunk and long branches; bark pale gray and fawn with shallow elliptic longitudinal fissures; branches smooth, 4-angled when young, eventually terete, glabrous, terminal bud subconic, brown-puberu
• Leaves glabrous, petioles 10-15(-25) mm long, broadened and flattened towards apex; lamina 8-18 cm long, 4.5-10 cm broad, broadly elliptic-oblong to obovate, apex rounded to netuse, base broadly cuneate, coriaceous, concolorous, with lateral nerves prominent on both surfaces.
• Inflorescences from upper leaf axils, 3-15-flowered, usually simply racemiform, 5-10 cm long, glabrous; flowers bisexual, 20-25 mm in diam., plane to convex, fragrant, in bud globose, pedicels 15-40 mm long, glabrous; sepals 4, becoming reflexed, glabrous, outer 2.7-9 mm long and broad, obovate, petaloid; petals 4, becoming reflexed, 9-12 mm long, 7-8 mm broad, obovate; stamens in 4 fascicles, sometimes with filaments united at very base, anthers ca. 1.5 mm long; ovary deep pink, ca. 3.5 mm long, subglobose, with style ca. 4 times as long, slightly exceeding stamens, flexuous.
• Drupe globose, 2.5-4 cm in diam., green, with smooth thick pericarp; stone globose.

分布

• 台灣 : south and Lanyu Is., rocky and sandy sea shores. Often planted.
• 世界 : Coasts and islands of the Indian Ocean, Madagasca, Indo-china, India, Philippines and eastward to Hainan, Bonin Is., Polynesia, Melanesia and Australia.
