Large Evergreen trees; trunk about 13 m tall, 0.7 m across; branchlets yellowish when dry; buds scales imbricate, glabrous to slightly pubescent outside; bracts and Leaves greenish.
Leaves alternate, oblong-oblanceolate to oblanceolate, 10-13 cm long, 2.5-4 cm broad, thinly coriaceous, attenuate acuminate at apex, acute or obtuse at summit, cuneate or attenuate at base, entire, glabrous and lustrous above, puberulous at first, becoming glaucescent beneath, midrib impressed above, elevated beneath, lateral veins 9-12 pairs, flattened on both surfaces, veinlets indistinct above, slightly distinct beneath, reticulate; petioles 0.8-1.8 cm long.
Inflorescences appearing with young Leaves, cymose-paniculate, subterminal, glabrous; peduncles 5-10 cm long; pedicels 0.4-1 cm; flowers small, light yellowish-green; receptacles 0.3-0.5 mm long; tepals 6, glabrous or nearly so outside, pubescent inside, outer ones ovate-oblong, tomentose, 4-5 mm long, 1.5-2 mm broad, inner ones 2-2.3 mm broad, obtuse, entire or ciliate; fertile stamens 9, 1st and 2nd whorles of stamens eglandular, filaments 2.2 mm long, glabrous, barbate at base, anthers introrse, 1.4 mm long, elliptic, 3rd whorl 2-glandular, filaments 2.2 mm long, glands stalked, 1 mm long, barbate and adnate to filament at base, anthers extrorse, 4th whorl staminodes, subsagittate, 1.3 mm long; ovary ovoid or globose, glabrous, 1.3 mm long, style glabrous, 2.5 mm long, stigma capitate or slightly 3-lobed.
Fruit compressed-globose, 1.2 cm across, with persistent, reflexed tepals, becoming green-black.
