Evergreen trees, with aromatic camphor odor; bark of trunk without knobs, deeply furrowed; buds ovoid, pubescent.
Leaves alternate, chartaceous, broadly ovate to elliptic, 7-10 cm long, 3-4 cm broad, acute to acuminate at apex, obtuse at base, entire to undulate, deep green, polished and glabrous above, glaucous beneath, with 3 main veins and 2 conspicuous glands in vein axils, lateral veins 2-3 pairs, in addition to the 2 lateral main veins, midrib and lateral veins elevated on both sides, veinlets reticulate, indistinct on both sides; petioles 1.5 cm long.
Inflorescence panicles, axillary; tepals 6, ovate, 1 mm broad, obtuse, yellowish-green, glabrous outside, pubescent inside; fertile stamens 9, 1st and 2nd whorles of stamens eglandular, anthers oblong, ca. 0.5 mm long, introrse, 3rd whorl with 2 ovate subsessile glands, sparsely haired at base, anthers extrorse, 4th whorl staminodes ovoid; ovary ovoid, glabrous.
Berry compressed-globose, 7-10 mm across, viole-black;seeds 6-7.1 mm across.
