Annual ascending herbs, to 100 cm tall; stems much branched, hirsute; nodes enlarged.
Leaves subsessile, lanceolate, 7–14 cm long, 1.5–2.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base attenuate, both surfaces hirsute; ocreae tubular, apex truncate, strigose, upper margins ciliate.
Inflorescences 3–7-flowered fascicles in spike-like panicles, terminal or in axils of upper leaves, densely flowered, interrupted below, 3–5 cm long; peduncles hirsute, 1–2.5 mm long; bracts funnelform, pilose, apex acute, upper margins ciliate. Flowers white; pedicels included; perianth segments 5, elliptic, ca. 3 mm long, apex obtuse; stamens 5; styles 2-cleft, included; nectaries present.
Achenes dark brown, biconvex, smooth, slightly shining, 2–3 mm long.

台灣 : in wet places at lower altitudes.
世界 : Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, S China and Okinawa (Kitadaito-jima).
