Perennial twining herb; stems much branched, glabrous, base often woody.
Leaves ovate, 3–8 cm long, 2–4 cm wide, apex acute to acuminate, base cordate or truncate, upper margins eciliate, both surfaces glabrous, veins papillate; petioles 1–2.5 cm long, base pit nectaries present; ocreae tubular, 0.3–0.5 cm long, slightly oblique, glabrous.
Inflorescences 3–5-flowered fascicles in panicle, terminal or axillary, densely flowered; peduncles papillate; bracts oblique-funnelform, papillate, apex acuminate, upper margins eciliate. Flowers white; pedicels exserted; perianth segments 5, elliptic, 2–3 mm long, apex obtuse, out perianth segments becoming winged in fruit; stamens 8, base enlarged; styles deeply 3-cleft, included; nectaries absent.
Achenes brown, trigonous, smooth, shining, ca. 2 mm long.

台灣 : usually climbing to the thicket canopies, in open fields and secondary forests from low to medium altitudes. Typical variety occurs in Japan and China.
