Annual ascending herbs, 50–70 cm tall; stems much branched, glabrous; nodes enlarged.
Leaves sessile, linear-lanceolate, 3.5–7.5 cm long, 0.4–1 cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, both surfaces puberulent, veins strigose, lower surface with sessile discoid glands; ocreae tubular, 0.5–1 cm long, apex truncate, strigose.
Inflorescences 3–5-flowered fascicles in spike-like panicles, terminal, branched, densely flowered, interrupted below, 3–5 cm long; peduncle glabrous to loosely pilose, 3–4 mm long; bracts oblique-funnelform, loosely pilose, upper margins ciliate. Flowers white or pink; pedicels included; perianth segments 5, elliptic, 1.5–2 mm long, apex obtuse; stamens 5; styles 2-cleft, included; nectaries present.
Achenes dark brown to black, biconvex, smooth, shining, 1–1.5 mm long.

台灣 : in wet places and paddy fields at low altitudes.
世界 : India, the Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand, S & E China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and the Ryukyus.
