Perennial ascending herbs, to 100 cm tall; stems much branched, strigose; nodes enlarged.
Leaves subsessile, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, 7–15 cm long, 1.5–2 cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate to obtuse, both surfaces strigose, lower surface with minute glands; ocreae tubular, 1.5–2.5 cm long, apex truncate, surfaces strigose, upper margins ciliate.
Inflorescences 3–6-flowered fascicles in spike-like panicles, terminal or in axils of upper leaves, densely flowered, 6–8 cm long; peduncles loosely pilose, 1.5–4 cm long; bracts funnelform, pilose, upper margins ciliate. Flowers pink; pedicels exserted; perianth segments 5, elliptic, 3–4 mm long, apex obtuse; stamens 8; styles 2-cleft, exserted; nectaries present.
Achenes dark brown, biconvex, smooth, shining, 2–3 mm long.
