形態特徵

Evergreen, medium-sized trees to 0.7 m in diameter; bark glabrous, grayish-white; branchlets 5-angled.
Leaves oblong to obovate, 12–25 cm long, 5–7.2 cm broad, coriaceous, acuminate at apex, cuneate at base, usually serrate near apex, very rarely entire, the midrib flat above, prominent below, lateral veins 11–14 pairs; petioles 2–5 cm long, semicircular, corpulent at base.
Staminate flowers April to Aug., 2 mm long, 2 mm broad; stamens 8–12. Pistillate flowers 2.5 mm long, 2 mm broad; ovary 2–3-celled, with 2–3 styles.
Cupules dish-shaped, sessile, 0.5–0.8 cm long, 2.2–2.4 cm across, the scales broadly triangular, imbricate;nuts compressed-globose to globose, 1.5–2.5 cm long, 1.9–2.6 cm across.

分布

台灣 : Very common in broad-leaved forests at altitudes of 700–1,600 m throughout the island.
