形態特徵

• Evergreen trees, usually with a straight trunk up to 2 m in diameter, often with plank buttressed roots; bark peeling off in scales, with numerous grayish-white dots; branchlets glabrous.
• Leaves lanceolate-oblong, 10–16 cm long, 2.5–3.9 cm broad, acuminate at apex, acute to obtuse at base, entire or somewhat wavy, coriaceous, lustrous above, rusty-lustrous beneath, midrib more or less prominent above and very distinct below, lateral veins 10–13 pairs; petioles 1.1–1.7 cm long. Inflorescence nearly terminal, golden-brown-pubescent;
• Staminate catkins densely flowered. Staminate flowers 3.2–3.5 mm long, 2–2.5 mm broad; perianth 6-lobed, puberulent outside, nearly glabrous inside; stamens 9–12, filaments slender, about 0.3 cm long, anthers 0.2 mm long. Pistillate flowers usually 2–4 in a cluster, 1.5–3 mm long, 1.5–2.5 mm broad; ovary with 2–3 styles.
• Cupules globose or broadly obovoid, 1–3 in a cluster, 2–2.5 cm across, truncate at apex, grayish-brown outside; scales broadly or narrowly triangular, flat, those on upper part of Cupule 1–3-keeled, those on lower part nearly smooth; nuts almost enclosed by Cupule, globose, 1.7–1.9 cm across, somewhat convex or truncate at apex.

物候

Staminate flowers blooming from March to September; fruits maturing from September to December.

分布

• 台灣 : usually in forests at 1,500–2,000 m altitude in the central and southern parts, also at 200–500 m altitude on the Hengchun Peninsula.
• 世界 : Distributed in S China, Hainan Island and Vietnam.
