形態特徵

Evergreen trees; branchlets with lenticels; young leaves tomentose beneath.
Leaves somewhat coriaceous, ovate to oblong, 7.5–14 cm long, 3–3.5 cm wide, acuminate at apex, slightly tapering toward base, remotely serrate, gray-glaucous beneath, the lateral veins 6–8 pairs; petioles 0.6–1.8 cm long, glabrous.
Staminate catkins slender, erect; flowers 3 mm long, 2.5 mm wide; perianth 6-parted, 1.5 mm long, 2.5 mm wide, glabrous outside, hairy inside; stamens 8–12, the filaments 3 mm long, glabrous, the anthers 0.3 mm long, oblong; reduced ovaries present. Pistillate inflorescence 4–10 cm long; flowers 2 mm long, 1 mm wide; perianth 6-parted, glabrescent outside; ovary with 3-pointed stigmas.
Fruits globose, 2.5–3 cm across; spines of cupule straight, branched, 1 cm long, 1–2 mm wide, tomentose; nut 1, ovoid, 1.5 cm long, 1.2 cm across, enclosed in a cupule, pubescent.

Staminate flowers blooming from December to May; fruits maturing from December to March.

分布

台灣 : in broad-leaved forests at 200 to 700 m altitude in the southern part of the island.
世界 : Distributed in Hainan Island.
