形態特徵

• Small deciduous trees; trunk up to 5 m tall, 9 cm across.
• Leaves alternate, broadly obovate to nearly rounded, 6–12 cm long, 5–12 cm wide, abruptly acute at apex, cordate at base, the margins incised and irregularly serrulate, papery, pubescent beneath, with violet dots when young, petioled; stipules caduous.
• staminate catkins 1–5, clustered, pendulous, long cylindrical, yellowish brown; staminate flower 1, in axil of bract, stamens 8; pistillate spikes ovoid, upright, sessile, scaley; pistillate flowers 2, in axil of bract; styles scarlet red, 1–2.
• Nuts globose, hard, enclosed within the 2 fused involucres, involucre ovate, serrate at apex.

• 台灣 : cultivated at the Wushe farm, Nantou.
• 世界 : Distributed in China, Japan, Korea and E Siberia.
