型態特徵
Wetland herbs, mostly perennial. Roots fibrous. Leaves tufted, basal, densely distichous on short stems, linear or ensiform, sheathing; sheath with narrow membranaceous margins, open on one side, embracing flowering stem. Flowers perfect, in axils of persistent bracts. Bracts spirally imbricate, rigid, entire, with a central vein and few lateral veins, lower bracts sterile, smaller. Sepals 3; 2 lateral ones opposite, persistent, hyaline, each with an entire keel and membranaceous wings; median one hyaline, cap-like, completely enveloping inner petals and opening at flowering. Petals 3, long clawed, limb obovate, claw adnate to staminodes. Fertile stamens 3, opposite to and inserted on petals; filaments short, flattened, membranaceous; staminodes 3, alternate with petals; filaments membranaceous, 1-veined, with a bifid terminal tuft of jointed hairs. Ovary superior, sessile, 3-celled; ovules parietal; styles filiform, trifid at apex. Fruit a capsule. Seeds obovoid, longitudinally striate.

Two genera in temperate to tropical areas. One species in Taiwan.
