屬
The family consists 6 genera and about 80 species native to tropical Asia, Africa and America. Taiwan 1 genus, 2 species. The two species of Sciaphila were endemic to Taiwan and were found in Lanyu Island, but are known only in their original description. No specimens are found in Taiwan and Japan. No plants of the species have been collected since 1934 and 1935, respectively. However, judging from the original description, one of them is referred to a widely distributed species, S. secundiflora, although the other still remains to be imperfectly known in this Flora. To clarify the identity of these species, further extensive searches for living plants of them in Taiwan especially in Lanyu Island are much needed.
