型態特徵

Medium sized terrestrial ferns, rhizomes dictyostelic, covered with persistent leaf bases, usually short and erect, in two genera long creeping; stipes with a ring of several vascular bundles, usually tufted, in two genera distant or approximate, scaly at least at base; scales opaque and quite diverse in size, shape, texture and color; venation free in nearly all genera; rachis deeply grooved on upper side and usually open to receive rachillage groves. Sori round, dorsal or terminal on veins; indusia round, peltate and centrally attached or attached by a deep sinus, rarely absent, and in one genus globose and stalked.

型態特徵

Terrestrial ferns; rhizomes usually creeping but not dorsiventral in structure, dictyostelic; rhizome-scales usually rigid, not peltate at the base, bearing unicellular needle-like hairs on margins and often on surfaces. Stipes containing 2 vascular bundles at the base and uniting to form a single strand U-shaped in section; laminae usually oblong or narrowly elliptic in outline, bipinnatifid, rarely bipinnate; surfaces bearing slender unicellular or rarely 2-celled hairs, sometimes also short glandular hairs; costae raised on upper surface at base, grooved or not, if grooved, not open to the groove of rachis; veins all free, pinnately arranged in each lobe of pinnae, or with veins of adjacent groups joining to form an areele towards the sinus between the lobes; sinuses closed at the base by a translucent membrane. Sori usually subapical on the veins, round or somewhat elongate; indusia renifonm, rarely naked. Spores always bilateral with perispore.

型態特徵

Rhizome short, stout, suberect, covered with persistent leaf bases. Stipes tufted, scaly at least at base, with several vascular bundles in a single ring; laminae pinnate to decompound, usually with a pinnatifid apex, lower pinnae may be gradually shortened, or the lowest pair may be much the largest; pinnules on both sides of rachilla may be of nearly equal length or those on the basal (basiscopic) side may be longer than those on the upper (acroscopic) side, the first basiscopic pinnule is often very much enlarged; venation free, simple or forked; texture usually subcoriaceous, sometimes herbaceous; catadromous in all divisions, except in the basal pair of pinnae, (i.e. with the first pinnule of each pinna directed downwards); stipe, rachis, rachillae and costae often more or less scaly, scales on costa and costules may be of a small saccate type; margins of pinnules serrate or dentate, but not stiff aristate; rachis grooved on upper (adaxial) side, rachis groove open to admit rachillae grooves. Sori round, dorsal on veinlets; indusia large, round or reniform, attached at the sinus, usually persistent.

A genus of about 150 species, 28 or more from Taiwan.
