型態特徵
Shrubs or trees, usually with stellate pubescence. Leaves alternate, simple, estipulate. Flowers perfect, regular, solitary and axillary or in clusters, racemes or panicles terminating short lateral branches; calyx 4–5-lobed or cleft, free or adnate to ovary; petals 4–8, nearly separate or more usually united at base, imbricate or valvate, stamens twice as many as petals, inserted at their base; ovary superior or inferior, 3–5-celled below, ovules one-several in each cell; style slender, stigmas 1–5 . Fruit a dry or fleshy drupe. Seeds with endosperm.
屬
A family with ca. eight genera and over 100 species in eastern Asia, the Mediterranean region and North to South America. Two genera in Taiwan.

Inflorescence racemose, many-flowered, branches numerous, 2 or 3-flowered, forming a panicle; calyx 5-parted, lobes ovate-lanceolate, longer than tube, yellow stellate-tomentose; corolla 5-parted, lobes oblong, membranaceous, imbricate in bud, both surfaces yellow-stellate-tomentose; stamens 10, unequal, 5 much longer; filaments free above, thick and broad, united into a tube basally; ovary 5-celled; ovules 6–7 in each cell; style filiform, obscurely 5-lobed. Fruit oblong, erect, loculicidally dehiscing into 5 valves; seeds oblong, numerous, minute, irregularly winged at both ends; endosperm thin.
