型態特徵
Trees and shrubs. Leaves opposite, pinnate, rarely 1-foliolate or ternate, stipulate; leaflets serrate. Flowers small, polygamo-dioecious, in terminal or axillary clusters. Calyx mostly 5-lobed, imbricate. Petals 5, free, imbricated in bud. Stamens 5, alternate with petals, inserted outside the cup-shaped disc. Ovary usually 3-celled, entire or lobed, the styles connate or distinct, terminal. Ovules 6 or numerous in each cell; placentation axile. Fruit a leathery or fleshy capsule, sometimes indehiscent. Seeds solitary or few in each cell, albuminous.

Trees or shrubs, glabrous and shining, with smooth terete branches. Leaves opposite, stipulate, 1- or 3-foliolate to odd-pinnate; leaflets opposite, serrulate, subcoriaceous. Panicles terminal and axillary. Flowers small, regular, hermaphroditic; calyx 5-partite, imbricate; petals 5, imbricate; stamens 5, inserted outside the lobed or crenulate raised disc; filaments flattened; anthers short; ovary sessile, 3-lobed and 3-celled; style 3, combined or distinct, the stigmas subcapitate; ovules 2 together or more, and then in two rows. Fruit subglobose, indehiscent, 3-celled. Seeds angular; testa hard, shining; aril 0, endosperm fleshy.
