型態特徵
Trees, shrubs, rarely herbs, with abundant pellucid glands, filled with essential oils. Leaves opposite or alternate, simple or compound, estipulate. Inflorescence various. Flowers usually regular, hermaphroditic or polygamous; sepals 4–5, free or connate; petals 4–5, rarely none, imbricate or valvate; stamens as many or twice as many as the petals, sometimes fewer or more numerous; disc usually annular or cushion-like, between the ovary and stamens; ovary superior, usually deeply lobed, typically 4–5-loculed, the carpels more or less connate, or free, rarely 1-carpellary; ovules solitary or geminate. Fruit various, separating into as many cocci as carpels or baccate. Seeds usually solitary in each cell, the testa various; endosperm fleshy or 0; embryo straight or curved.

型態特徵
Unarmed or spinous shrubs or trees. Leaves alternate, 1-foliolate, coriaceous, persistent, entire or crenulate; stipulate scales often present. Flowers axillary, rarely terminal, fascicled or in short racemed corymbs or panicles, rarely solitary; calyx 3–5-lobed, rarely irregularly split; petals 3–5, tree or adnate to the stamens and united with them into a tube, imbricate; stamens 6–8, rarely 15–20, inserted around an annular or cupular disc; filaments tree or connate, subequal or the alternate ones short; anthers short, ovate-oblong; ovary 2- or 4- celled; style deciduous, the stigma capitate; ovules solitary or 2 collateral in each cell. Berry large, subglobose, 1–5-celled ; seeds oblong.
