型態特徵
Trees, shrubs, rarely herbs, with abundant pellucid glands, filled with essential oils. Leaves opposite or alternate, simple or compound, estipulate. Inflorescence various. Flowers usually regular, hermaphroditic or polygamous; sepals 4–5, free or connate; petals 4–5, rarely none, imbricate or valvate; stamens as many or twice as many as the petals, sometimes fewer or more numerous; disc usually annular or cushion-like, between the ovary and stamens; ovary superior, usually deeply lobed, typically 4–5-loculed, the carpels more or less connate, or free, rarely 1-carpellary; ovules solitary or geminate. Fruit various, separating into as many cocci as carpels or baccate. Seeds usually solitary in each cell, the testa various; endosperm fleshy or 0; embryo straight or curved.

型態特徵
Deciduous trees or shrubs. Leaves opposite, imparipinnate. Flowers small, dioecious, in terminal panicles or corymbs, greenish and inconspicuous; sepals and petals 5–8, stamens 5–6, exceeding the petals, the filaments filiform, often villose; ovary 5-celled, with a single, short stout style and a 5-lobed stigma. Fruit a small, black, berry-like drupe, with 5 seeds.
