型態特徵
Trees, shrubs, rarely herbs, with abundant pellucid glands, filled with essential oils. Leaves opposite or alternate, simple or compound, estipulate. Inflorescence various. Flowers usually regular, hermaphroditic or polygamous; sepals 4–5, free or connate; petals 4–5, rarely none, imbricate or valvate; stamens as many or twice as many as the petals, sometimes fewer or more numerous; disc usually annular or cushion-like, between the ovary and stamens; ovary superior, usually deeply lobed, typically 4–5-loculed, the carpels more or less connate, or free, rarely 1-carpellary; ovules solitary or geminate. Fruit various, separating into as many cocci as carpels or baccate. Seeds usually solitary in each cell, the testa various; endosperm fleshy or 0; embryo straight or curved.

Unarmed shrub or trees. Leaves unifoliolate or imparipinnate; leaflets entire, alternate. Flowers small, in axillary rarely terminal panicles; calyx 4–5-partite, the segments broad, imbricate; petals 4–5, imbricate; stamens 8–10, free, inserted around a disc; filaments subulate, dilated below; anthers small, often with a dorsal or apical gland; ovary 2–5-celled; style very short, persistent, the stigma simple; ovule solitary and pendulous in each cell. Berry small, dry or fleshy, 1–3-seeded; seeds oblong, the testa membranaceous.
