型態特徵

Submersed herbs in brackish water. Stems copiously branched. Leaves alternate or opposite, filiform or setaceous, with a conspicuous midrib, sheathing at base. Inflorescence a spike, pedunculate, enveloped in a leaf sheath when young, submersed, solitary, axillary; peduncles at first short but much elongated in fruit; bracts none. Flowers bisexual, small, without perianth; stamens 2, opposite each other; anthers 2-celled, connective with an acute appendage, filaments very short, broad. Carpels 3 or 4 in 1 or 2 rows, each with a single ovule pendulous from apex of the cell, stigmas peltate, sessile. Fruiting carpels indehiscent, asymmetrical, obliquely ovoid, long stiped; seeds without endosperm.
