型態特徵
Trees, shrubs, lianas, or herbs. Leaves simple, mostly entire, commonly decussately opposite, often with connate interpetiolar stipules, or sometimes whorled, or rarely stipules intrapetiolar. Inflorescence basically cymose, terminal or lateral, rarely solitary flowers. Flowers mostly complete, rarely unisexual, nearly always epigynous, often heterostyle, zoophilous or rarely anemophilous, actinomorphic or rarely zygomorphic, often tetramerous or pentamerous. Calyx adnate to the ovary, aestivation open, lobes minute or obsolete, sometimes one or more enlarged and colored. Corolla sympetalous, salverform, rotate or funnelform. Stamens as many as and alternate corolla lobes, attached within corolla tube or at mouth; anthers dithecal, opening longitudinally. Ovary nearly always inferior, often bicarpellate; style single, terminal; stigma capitate or lobed. Fruit a capsule, berry, drupe, or schizocarp.
