型態特徵
Shrubs or trees; stipules intrapetiolar, usually connate. Flowers large, solitary, terminal or axillary; calyx-tube campanulate or tubular, lobes 4–9; corolla-tube campanulate, base narrow or cylindric, 4–9-lobed, imbricate in the bud; stamens as many as corolla-lobes, usually exserted, anthers 2-lobed or entire; ovary l-celled, incompletely divided by 2 to 5 parietal projecting placentas; ovules many, immersed in the fleshy placenta. Fruits succulent, indehiscent, ovoid-globose, ellipsoid or cylindric, usually crowned by the persistent calyx-lobes, epicarp usually with ridges. Seeds many, immersed in the fleshy placenta; embryo small, endosperm horny.
About 200 species in tropical and warm Old World; 1 species in Taiwan.
