型態特徵
Vascular plants without roots; stems erect or pendent, dichotomously or unbranched; rhizomes mycorrhizal, with a protostele; aerial stem with a siphonostele. Leaves scale-like, lacking midrib, or elliptical with midrib. Sporangia borne in axils of leaves, 2-3 lobed, eusporangiate, homosporous. Gametophyte subterranean, cylindrical, mycorrhizal.

Rhizome bearing rhizoids; aerial stems simple below, repeatedly dichotomously branching above. Leaves small, scale-like, scattered, veinless. Sporangia 3-lobed, on adaxial side of the minute leaves; spores bilateral.
