型態特徵
Erect or climbing trees or shrubs. Leaves alternate or subverticillate, entire, very rarely toothed, estipulate. Flowers usually bisexual, regular, solitary or in corymbs. Sepals 4–5, free or connate at the base, imbricate. Petals 4–5, hypogynous, imbricate. Stamens 5, opposite the sepals, free or more or less connate; anthers versatile, 2-celled, dehiscing longitudinally or by pores. Ovary superior, perfectly or imperfectly 2–4-celled, the placentae parietal or axile on mature flower; style simple, the stigma terminal, 2–5-lobed; ovules numerous, anatropous. Fruit capsular, indehiscent. Seeds usually many; endosperm copious; embryo small.

Nine genera and about 240 species in the Old World, one genus in Taiwan.
